Plastic is obtained by petrol.
There are different types of plastics that have different chemical characteristics and are suitable for different uses: their abbreviations are those that can be found on plastic bottles :
- The Common PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles for common liquid food and drinks.
- PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is used for bottles, duct tape, electrical wires, pipes and pipe end protections
- PP (Polypropylene) for syringes and pens
- PE (Polyethylene) for all kinds of bags, shopping, garbage, food bags.
Recycling of plastic varies from city to city: in general you can put bottles and plastic items with the symbol PET, PVC and PE. While you shouldn't put dishes, glasses, bags, plastic-card as well as other items contaminated with food waste, oils, toxic dyes etc. even if plastic is a recyclable type.
Plastic coming from recycling is sent to a Selection and storage Centre. The various types of plastics are divided according to polimers, through, for example, X-rays and subsequently they are ground, washed and sent to the processing of new products.
These new products are formed by two types of plastic derived from recycling:
1) homogeneous plastic like
Recycled PET for staple or wire fibers and containers
Recycled PVC for skirting boards, pipes, rigid profile
Recycled polyethylene for bottles for chemical products
2) mixed plastics
And they are used for flooring, fences, outdoor children's play elements, street furniture, lamps.
